Just waiting for a mate. 🐨 Despite sounding like something from your nightmares, this sound is actually a male koala in the Pine Mountain area near Brisbane calling for a mate. Koalas can be difficult to spot from the ground, as they are most active at night and often rest high in trees during the day. To help us estimate the number of koalas in Australia, our National Koala Monitoring Program has been using acoustic recorders this mating season to capture sounds like these around the country.
