Do you remember ReBoot? One of the first fully computer-animated television series, ReBoot followed a cast of characters living inside “Mainframe,” a city within a computer system. When a user inserted a game into the system, the characters could be forced to enter and play against the user, similar in concept to Tron or Wreck-It Ralph. But, says Xerox PARC’s Butler Lampson, that wasn’t how anyone wanted to do it. Everyone wanted an efficient, working personal computer like the Alto.
